Red-Hot Olunga Bangs SEVEN in Japan

Michael Olunga ended the 2019 J2 League in style when he scored seven goals as his Japanese club Kashiwa Reysol registered a 13-1 win over Kyoto Sanga on Sunday morning.

The team had already sealed promotion back to the top-flight but their performance on the final day of the season was that of a hungry team with something to prove. Olunga was the chief destroyer grabbing seven while Brazilian forward Cristiano Da Silva scored a hat-trick. Matheus Savio scored two while Yusuke Segawa scored the other goal.

Olunga scored the opener in the sixth minute and added a second in the 23rd minute. Segawa scored his in the 27th minute before Olunga completed is hat-trick in the 33rd minute. They took a four-goal lead to the break in a match that they totally controlled.

12 minutes into the second half, the Kenyan international got his fourth before Cristiano scored his first in the 60th minute.  He added two more in the 65th and 67th minutes before Cristiano scored his second in the 70th minute. Savio then grabbed a quick double in the 78th and 79th minutes before Cristiano completed his hat-trick in the 84th minute. Olunga then completed the rout that he had started with a seventh deep into stoppage time.

The left-footed forward ends the season with 27 goals and second in the top scorers’ chart.  He has also played a key role in Kashiwa’s immediate bounce-back to the top tier following their relegation at the end of last season. Kashiwa tops the league with 84 points, five more than Yokohama who have also been promoted, Omiya Ardjia, Tokushima Vortis, Ventforet Kofu, and Montedio Yamagata will head to the promotion playoffs.
