Former Arsenal Captain Slams Unai Emery After Southampton Stalemate

Former Arsenal captain Tony Adams has taken a swipe at coach Unai Emery following the Gunners’ two-all draw against Southampton on Saturday night at the Emirates.

For a third time in a row, the north Londoners registered a draw at home against sides they should be beating with ease. The other two stalemates were against Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers. It took a 96th-minute equalizer for Arsenal to salvage a point at home.

The results irked fans who booed the tactician and the players as they walked down the tunnel at fulltime and club legend Tony Adams was also far from impressed with the outcome of the clash. The Englishman noted that the team been worsening and went ahead to slam the club’s recruitment policy.

“The boos are deserved. It was a terrible, terrible performance, very disjointed, no defending in sight, [Emery] changed his system three times – he’s not doing himself any favors. I don’t want any coach losing his job but the club’s not going forward, it’s not progressing,” he said.

“The recruitment has been really poor. We got rid of Koscielny – our best player – he had to go last year & Ramsey, we lost. The team is evidently weaker because of it. ‘I could put a team together that is more organized than that.

Arsenal has struggled to keep clean-sheets this term and has looked very vulnerable at the back something that worries the former defender.

“There’s no one going out there to keep clean sheets, I can’t see a clean sheet in sight. When you’re giving the opposition team at the Emirates 20 chances on your goal, you’re never going to keep a clean sheet,” he concluded.
