Picture this, you just had the most intense orgasm and are basking in the glory of a good lay when hell-sent cramps attack your body.

You are confused and wondering how something good turned so painful. Well as it turns out a good orgasm can give you intense cramps for the following reasons:

Uterine Contractions

An orgasm can quickly turn painful when the muscles in your uterus contract during or before an orgasm.

“It is absolutely normal to cramp after sex, especially if you had an orgasm,” said Heather Bartos, an OB-GYN.

Janelle Luk, a reproductive endocrinologist and co-founder of Generation Next Fertility told Huffington post that, “When you think about the physical things that happen during sex; contractions after orgasm, and pressure on your cervix, you can see how this could add to cramping. In fact, all of the movement, pressure and activity of sex can put temporary pressure or push around everything, from your ovaries and uterus to your bladder, which can all be ‘bothered’ during sex, leading to temporary cramping.”

Your Period

Having sex on your period can cause your uterus to cramp up due to all the vigorous action involved. “The uterus already is working hard to expel menstrual blood and so the contractions can be more pronounced during sex while on your period. Interestingly enough, sex can actually alleviate period pain for some, but yes, all of that action and movement ― from contractions to pressure ― can also add to your discomfort,” said Luk

Your Partner’s Semen
Some women are sensitive to hormone-like substances called Prostaglandins present in semen leading to uterine muscle contractions.
