Excitement as Mariga, Owalo Bump into Each Other at Kasarani(Photos)

Former candidates and political nemesis in the just concluded Kibra by-election McDonald Mariga and Eliud Owalo on Monday unexpectedly met at Kasarani stadium during the Kenyan match against Togo.

The match ended in a one-goal draw.

The meeting sparked excitement from the two who were meeting for the first time since they lost the Kibra by-election to MP-elect Bernard Okoth, alias Imran.

The two also took to their social media accounts to express their pleasure of meeting each other after a hotly contested by-election.

Mariga, who was the Jubilee party flagbearer came distant second with nearly 26 per cent of the votes cast.

On the other hand, Owalo who was the ANC party candidate became third with 13 per cent.

The MP-elect, Imran, was on Tuesday welcomed to Parliament by Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili, alias Babu Owino.

The aftermath of the poll saw a section of Jubilee leaders castigating the ANC candidate for spoiling Mariga’s victory.

However, Mariga had conceded defeat even before the final tally was announced by the Independent Electoral and boundaries commission(IEBC).

A total of 24 candidates battled for the seat in the mini poll that was held on November 7.

The seat fell vacant after the death of immediate MP Ken Okoth who succumbed to colorectal cancer in July.
