3 Political Rebels That are Headaches to Their Parties

Political rebels seem to have the last laugh as they are proven headaches for their political parties.

Parties such as ODM and ANC made the headlines with some of their members going rogue.

Rebels such as Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, Nominated MP Godfrey Osotsi and Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, have openly defied their party leadership with consequences that are termed less effective.

The leaders are stated to enjoy the benefits of the positions held despite their suspension or expulsion from the parent groups.

Jumwa, Osotsi and Malala are reported to have the advantage due to the various avenues provided by law used by the political parties.

Further information indicated that loopholes in the constitution and the political parties act, gave the three the upper hand when the matter was being handled.

According to the Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu, when the case is brought forward by the aggrieved organisation, there is a process that needs to be followed and leaders are allowed to move from one party to another.

“In our case, we always start with the political parties dispute tribunal. Once the matter has been executed there, a member can move,” remarked Nderitu.

She added that, “If he or she is not satisfied by the decision made there, the person can take the matter to the High Court, Court of Appeal and lastly the Supreme Court.”

Nderitu reiterated that political parties can turn the tables through finding mechanisms of handling the matter internally.

The soft-spoken registrar asserted that the flushed out members deserved to know when the issues are raised.

The head of the institution however, declared that respect should be observed by those seeking a way out of the organisations.

Nderitu further expressed that the independence of the institution was not compromised when the court overturned the verdict of removing the embattled Osotsi from ANC’s members’ list.

Cleophas Malala on Saturday became the latest rebel when he came out and dared ANC to throw him out.

Malala, commented that he was ready for a by-election as he intended to resign as Senator should the party go ahead with the decision.

The fiery politician claimed that he was confident of clinching back the seat with ODM party which he was proclaimed to have joined.

The path taken by the Musalia Mudavadi led party was as a result of allegations that Senator Malala had campaigned for Kibra MP-elect Imran Okoth.

The leader on his part pointed out that he was in Kibra as a NASA representative and should not be crucified as he did nothing wrong.
