The announcement was made on Monday afternoon by the Education CS George Magoha at the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) headquarters along Dennis Pritt Road, Nairobi.

According to the results, the leading candidate, Andy Michael Munyiri, attained 440 marks.

Three candidates; Flavian Onyango, June Cheptoo and Sean Michael Ndungu tied at 439 marks.

This year saw a total of 1,088,986 candidates sit for the examinations last month.

18 counties registered more female candidates than the male, with Nairobi, Nakuru and Kakamega counties having the highest number of registered candidates and Lamu, Isiolo and Samburu recording the lowest.

Female candidates did better in English, Kiswahili and Sign Language while their male counterparts performed better in Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.

The candidates can access the results by sending their index number via SMS to 20076.

CS Magoha, who earlier today briefed President Uhuru Kenyatta on the results, termed the examinations largely credible, but with isolated cases in which students and examiners were arrested engaging in cheating and other exam malpractice.

“We have managed to release the results just 17 days after completion of exams, I sincerely thank everyone,” Magoha said.

The CS also noted that the number of pregnancies among candidates reduced significantly while lauding the students for their diligence.

TSC CEO Dr Nancy Macharia vowed to investigate the conduct of 56 teachers who were caught during the exam period. She also promised that TSC would soon recognize teachers who took extraordinary steps to stop cheating.

“As a council, we made gains in the examinations that are coming to a close. KNEC is committed to maintaining standards set to ensure effective management and administration of the examination,” said Dr. John Onsati, KNEC Chairman.
