Moi University Student Dies Mysteriously in a Hostel

A fourth-year student at the Moi University Eldoret has reportedly died.

According to the police, the yet-to-be-named male student was found dead in a hostel at the Kesses main campus in Uasin Gishu County.

The slain student was reportedly pursuing B.Ed (Mathematics/ Business).

It is not yet clear what caused the death.

This comes just days after a 22-year-old Chuka university student was on Tuesday found dead in his house at Ndagani Tharaka Nithi County after committing suicide.

Dennis Mwiathi, a Bachelor of Commerce student described by colleagues as a silent and jovial person, and his acquaintances would not predict the reasons that culminated to a decision of taking away his life.

“Mwiathi  was very close and friendly to his parents and everyone around him and we do not know why he decided to commit suicide despite enrolling for a degree program this year,” said one of his cousins who was speaking at the scene of crime.

Confirming the incident, the area Assistant Chief. Charles  Njagi said that he was alerted about the matter at nine and upon arrival, he found the body of the deceased lying on the floor with a rope around his neck.

The body was taken to Chuka hospital mortuary as police launched investigations to establish the cause of his death.

In August 2019, a 22-year-old fourth-year Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (Mmust) student was found dead in unexplained circumstances.

Belinda Akeyo Achieng had just completed her industrial attachment. She was a Bachelor of Education student.

“We alerted the caretaker who called the police. We found her lifeless body on the floor and blood oozing from her mouth and private parts,” one of her friends said then.

She became the sixth Mmust student to die in eight months in unclear circumstances.
