ODM Sends Nairobi County Minority Leader Packing

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party on Friday confirmed that its Minority Leader in Nairobi County Assembly Elias Otieno Okumu has been sent packing.

The Orange party, through its Director of Communication Philip Etale, took to social media accounts to announce the change in its leadership of the City Assembly.

The Orange party declared Karen MCA Hon. David Njilithia Mberia as the new designate Minority Leader.

“The Party has today designated Karen MCA Hon. David Njilithia Mberia as the new Minority Leader in the Nairobi County Assembly.

“In the last Assembly, he served as the Majority Whip. We wish Mberia all the best in his new appointment” tweeted the Orange party.

ODM party has already communicated the new changes to the Nairobi Cunty Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi.

The move comes after weeks of speculation revolving around the ouster of Okumu as Minority leader.

Okumu, who is Kileleshwa MCA, was reportedly bound to be ousted after he was a no show at Kibra by-election.

He was accused of failing to campaign for the ODM candidate in the by-election yet he was the leader of the City MCAs.

The recent change comes barely a week after Jubilee Party Secretary-General confirmed the ouster of Abdi Guyo as Majority leader in the City Assembly.

The confirmation brought to an end a protracted tussle between Speaker Elachi and Guyo.

The two have been locking horns in the county assembly with Elachi accusing Guyo of orchestrating her ouster in 2018.

Guyo, however, faulted Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko for his latest woes following their differences that ensued after the governor dismissed some of his officers over the Precious Talent Academy tragedy.
