President Uhuru Kenyatta is on Friday 15, expected to host a number of leaders from Mt. Kenya region at Sagana State lodge in Kirinyaga ahead of the much anticipated BBI report.
Although it is not yet clear on what will be discussed, it is expected that general issues touching on Mt. Kenya region will be at the center stage of the meeting.
Also expected to be debated upon, is the BBI issue which is yet to be released, but has already faced some rejections from a section of leaders from the region.
In October, more than 40 leaders from the region threatened to shoot down proposals contained in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) if they do not address the region’s concerns.
The threats seem to have gotten the attention of Uhuru, who has so far delayed in receiving and releasing the report to Kenyans for public discussions and scrutny.
His visit, however, is seen as a strategy to quell the rising rebellion among many of the region’s leaders who have vowed to disappoint Uhuru.
On Wednesday, Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri warned that the country was headed for a serious division in 2022 if President Uhuru continues turning his back on their pleas.
According to Ngunjiri, the president’s handshake with Opposition leader Raila Odinga was commercial and had divided the country further rather than uniting it.
He accused the head of state of perpetuating tribalism through selective arrests of corrupt leaders.

The tough-talking Bahati lawmaker also called on the president to dissolve the government for allegedly failing to demonstrate leadership after assuming office for the second term.
Ngunjiri vowed to join hands with other Tanga Tanga leaders to counter and thwart efforts by Uhuru and Raila to pass the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report which he said, was going to take away the right of Kenyans to directly elect their leaders.
President Uhuru Kenyatta’s visit comes just four days after he cancelled his planned visit to Murang’a county.
Uhuru, who was expected to attend a thanksgiving ceremony at ACK Kenol Cathedral on Sunday 10, opted to send three Cabinet Secretaries instead, saying that he was receiving foreign delegates.
His decision to snub the function angered Murang’a residents, who took to social media to express their fury on the president.
Leaders who did not wish to be quoted were angry at the turn of events, some even saying that the President only comes to the region during burials.
