Raila’s Daughter Hints At Running For Lang’ata MP 2022

Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s youngest daughter has expressed interest in running for Langata parliamentary seat in 2022.

Raila’s daughter threw herself into the race at a Thanksgiving rally for the just concluded Kibra parliamentary by-election.

This happened after a section of ODM legislators exuded confidence in winning the Langata constituency seat from Jubilee Party’s Nixon Korir.

The MP’s christened Langata constituency as Raila’s ‘sitting room’ while Kibra was the ‘bedroom.’

In the heat of the moment, Winnie would reveal her political ambition for the seat to thunderous applause from ODM supporters.

In February 2017, Raila’s eldest daughter Rosemary Odinga expressed interest in running for the Langata seat but would abandon the idea after a near-death ordeal with a brain tumour.

Rosemary, now partially blind, has steered clear of politics since then, ostensibly to give herself time to fully recover from her illness.

In an interview in 2018, Raila narrated how he received a call as he was heading to Turkana County for the heated 2017 Presidential campaigns that Rosemary had fallen ill.

She was hosting women leaders at a Naivasha hotel when she is said to have excused herself to the hotel room after feeling dizzy.

Moments later, Rosemary had collapsed and could not move to open her hotel room for the hospital staff who had come to her rescue.

The door was broken after which she was flown to South Africa and later China where she underwent a 10-hour surgery to remove a tumour from her brain.
