Kalenjin Leaders’ Latest Demand to Raila [Video]

Kalenjin political leaders have joined the calls by Deputy President William Ruto demanding that ODM boss Raila Odinga publicly apologises to Kenyans for the violence witnessed in Kibra during the November 7 polls.

Senate Majority Leader and Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen commanded that Raila publicly renounces violence and confesses his sins failure to which Jubilee MPs will fail to endorse the recommendations of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

“We want to insist that as members of Members of Parliament of Jubilee, we are not going to endorse anything to do with BBI until Raila renounces violence, ask for forgiveness and confesses his sins,” he declared.

Murkomen accused Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi and Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai of failing to arrest Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati, who was recorded leading youth to attack his Kimilili counterpart Didmus Barasa as voting was underway in Kibra.

“The things we saw in Kibra if by now they Inspector General of Police and the Minister of Interior has not done anything, I want to tell them we are sowing seeds of discord and we will reap as we have reaped before,” he stated.

Nandi Governor Stephen Sang said the Kibra violence showed that ODM was acting contrary to the spirit of the handshake.

“What we witnessed in Kibra perpetrated by members of the ODM against candidates and voters is a clear testimony that the political party whose signature is violence all along has and has learned the least from the BBI is ODM,” he claimed.

He asked the DCI and DPP to take action against the perpetrators of the Kibra violence.

On the other hand, 25 MPs drawn from both ODM and Jubilee on Wednesday accused a section of political leaders allied to DP Ruto of using the Kibra polls to advance their political agenda.

‘The handshake MPs’ stated that nobody from the Tanga Tanga group had reported any incidents of violence at any police station in Kibra.

They further warned the DP camp against besmirching the characters of CS Fred Matiang’i, IG Hillary Mutyambai and other government officials to create the narrative that Ruto is being targeted unfairly by the State.
