Video: Two Arrested as Voter Bribery Chaos Rock Kibra

A man and a woman have been arrested at Mashimoni Squatters polling station in Kibra constituency after they were allegedly found red-handed dishing out money to voters in a bribery scheme.

After interrogations, one of the suspects, a man, was later identified as Jemmo Kipkorir. He is said to be one of the officials working at Lang’ata constituency CDF office.

He was, however, lucky to be rescued by police officers after the crowd began baying for his blood. The woman, who could not be immediately identified, managed to escape the crowd’s wrath but was later apprehended by the law enforcers.

During the scuffles, the man reportedly lost an unknown amount of cash to the crowd.

Despite the loss, angry voters refused to give back the money claiming the man had been sent to buy votes as Kibra constituents geared up to vote in their next member of parliament.

Security has already been beefed up at the station after the man was taken away by the police.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino rushed to the station in what he said was ODM’s bid to stop any bribery activities during the voting process.

“Assistant Field Force Unit Ondoa Kunguni kibra Babu Owino has arrived in Mashimoni polling station where Didimus Barasa and Nickson Korir we’re bribing voters we have covered the ground as #KibraDecide,” posted Owino on his twitter page.

Earlier in the day, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed had alleged that some people had been given a total of Ksh50,000 each at Weston Hotel to be used in bribing Kibra voters.

He urged Kibra voters to stay vigilant and repulse any bribery attempts during the voting process.
