An otherwise smooth match for Tottenham Hotspur turned sour and painful following a horrific injury sustained by Everton midfielder Andre Gomes at Goodison Park on Sunday.

Spurs forward Son Heung-min collided with Gomes deep into second-half resulting in an injury-which appeared to be a broken ankle, on the Portuguese footballer, and Son evidently felt the pain.

He was inconsolable after being sent off following the challenge while Gomes received treatment on the field before being stretchered off.

Both teams appeared distraught at the extent of the injury, extending all the way to the dressing rooms with Son crying uncontrollably. “He’s disappointed, he’s in tears. It’s not his fault. He can hardly pick his head up, he’s crying that much,” Spurs scorer Dele Alli told Sky Sports.

Everton’s dressing room was also in somber mood, and Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino later confirmed how The Toffees’ captain Seamus Coleman had to console Son.

“I want to thank the captain of Everton, Seamus Coleman – he came into the dressing room to console Son,” Mauricio said.

The match ended in a tepid 1-1 draw with Dele Ali and Cenk Tosun being on the score-board. Ali struck in the 63rd minute leaving Everton with the sole duty of looking for at least an equalizer.

Indeed, the home side pushed for the equalizer after Son’s sending off and it duly came in the 97th minute, when Tosun headed in from close range after Lucas Digne crossed.

With this result, Everton are 17th while Tottenham Hotspur sit on the 11th spot of the Premier League table.
