Census Results: Tharaka Nithi Governor, MP Dispute County’s Data

Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki and Member of Parliament for Tharaka George Murugara have disputed the 2019 census results indicating that the county had a population, 393,177 people.

According to the NationBreakingnews, the two have said the numbers are too low saying they will petition the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics(KNBS) to review the findings.

The Kenya Population & Housing Census results were released on Monday by President Uhuru Kenyatta at Statehouse, Nairobi.

The data indicated that Kenya’s population stands at 47.6 million people with the number of women being higher than those of men.

The data indicated that 24 million of Kenya’s population are women while the remaining 23.6 are men.

Top five counties include Nairobi(4.4 million people), Kiambu(2.42 million people), Nakuru(2.16 million people), Kakamega(1.87 million people) and Bungoma(1.67 million people).

The five bottom counties are Lamu(0.14 million people), Isiolo(o.27 million people), Samburu(o.31 million people), Tana River(0.32 million people) and Taita Taveta(o.34 milion people).

President Kenyatta in his address directed his ministries to align its development agenda in accordance with the census data to enable citizens to receive sufficient services.

The Head of State thanked all those who took part in the 2019 census and promised to ensure every region is given its fair share of resources with respect to the census data.
