Patrick Matasi Returns as Francis Kimanzi Names Harambee Stars Squad For AFCON qualifiers

Harambee Stars coach Francis Kimanzi has named the team’s squad for the upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier against Egypt and Togo.

The coach has handed goalkeeper Patrick Matasi a recall after he was left out in Stars friendly match against Mozambique. Influential AFC Leopards forward Mark Makwatta has also been handed a call up as has Kariobangi Sharks defender Daniel Sakari.

John Avire, who made a mark at the 2019 continental showpiece, has also been called up alongside Wazito FC defender Johnstone Omurwa. Harambee Stars have not won a single match since Francis Kimanzi was appointed. His first match was a 1-1 draw with Uganda while the other was a 1-0 loss to Mozambique at the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani.

The team kicks off non-residential training on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, in Nairobi. Stars will face Egypt on November 14, in Cairo, and Togo on November 19, 2019, at the MISC Kasarani.
