Blow To Sossion As TSC Eliminate Him From Register of Teachers

Barely a month after KNUT Secretary-General(SG) Wilson Sossion and his nemeses at the teachers union buried the hatchet, another blow has fallen on him after the Teachers Service Union(TSC) removed his name from the register of teachers.

In a gazette notice, number 10382, issued by the TSC boss Nancy Macharia, Sossion eased to be a professional teacher with effect from October 29, 2019.

KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion.

“Pursuant to Section 30 of the Teachers Service Commission Act, the Teacher Service Commission has removed the name of  Wilson Sossion, with registration number 340096, from the Register of Teachers.

Further, under the law, the individual cannot engage in teaching in any school,” reads the gazette notice.

The move renders Sossion illegible to hold any leadership with KNUT since one of the conditions set for the position include being a registered reacher.

However, KNUT has dismissed the gazette notice terming it illegal since a case, over the matter, is pending in court.

The giant teachers union took to its social media pages to issue a statement regarding the matter whereby they slammed the employer of discriminating against their union.

They asked their member to stay put and not to be cowed by the move.

“NOTICE TO OUR MEMBERS. There should be no panic over the gazetted notice by @TSC_KE  to deregister our SG Wilson Sossion. The notice is illegal as the matter is active in court.

Gazette notice indicating that KNUT SG Wilson Sossion is no longer a bonafide teacher.

It is also discriminative as there are many other union leaders who are serving Members of Parliament,” tweeted KNUT.

The defiant SG  has been having a protracted tussle with the teachers’ employer ostensibly brought by his stand on certain programmes.

His opposition towards the Competency-Based Curriculum(CBC) early 2019 seemingly made him an enemy among the key stakeholders in the education sector.

For some months the teachers’ employer failed to remit union dues in what was termed as a move to bring down the giant union to its knees.

However, a court order was issued directing the employer to remit the dues.

Nevertheless, a cold war ensued between KNUT and the employer after TSC denied the former’s members payrise and awarded those belonging to no or other unions an increment in their salaries.
