Ruto Ditches Commandos During KCPE Supervision (VIDEO)

Deputy President William Ruto appears to have learnt a lesson or two, from the public backlash he received over the weekend, for attending a campaign rally escorted by heavily armed security detail.

Ruto, who was accused of attempted intimidation during a Kibra rally, Wednesday paid a visit to Ngong Forest Primary School, to supervise the opening and distribution of the Science examination, as the 2019 KCPE enters day two.

The deputy president’s security detail was, this time round, nowhere to be seen as Ruto walked around the school interacting with pupils, teachers, and other exam officials.

Ruto was subjected to public scrutiny, after the ODM Party published photos of two commandos keeping watch, as he and other politicians addressed the crowd, drumming up support for Jubilee candidate MacDonald Mariga in the November 7 by-election.

The people of Kibra are unbowed….And forever they shall (be). Hii vitisho ni Baridi tu (These are just meaningless threats),” ODM Spokeman Phillip Etale said while sharing the said photos.

While majority of Kenyans were of the opinion that Ruto went overboard with his security detail show-off, a section of his supporters were adamant that being the second in command, Ruto should have, in fact, brought more guards along.

Further, his supporters argued, two incidences of violence against politicians have been reported during the ongoing campaigns in Kibra, so it was only right for the DP to protect himself.
First, Mariga’s convoy was pelted with stones on Oct. 12, before a convoy belonging to Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC candidate for the mini-poll, Eliud Owalo, was attacked in a similar manner over the weekend.
During his Wednesday morning visit to Ngong Forest School, Ruto wished the candidates success in their remaining papers, in the exam that ends Thursday.

He also expressed gratitude to the school’s administration for accommodating pupils from the tragedy-stricken Precious Talent Academy.
