Police Leave Suspect Limping After Brutal Beating Inside Station

A 27 year old man is nursing serious injuries after a gang of police officers beat him up mercilessly, inside a police station in Eldoret.

The victim, Kelvin Mungai, says that he was having a meal at a police canteen, when two police officers attacked him, injuring him on the neck, hands, back and mouth.

A limping Mungai whose face is badly bruised on Monday recorded a statement with the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA).

It is after assaulting him, Mungai said, that the policemen arrested him and threw him in the cells without any medical assessment.

When the officer in charge later found out that he was injured, he released him from custody, directing the victim to go seek treatment in hospital.

Kenya police have time and again been accused of using excessive force on suspects

Although IPOA has already commenced investigations into the case, claims of complacency within the Authority have re-emerged.

According to concerned citizens, some high ranking IPOA officials have been helping rogue cops get away with gross misconduct.

The public has also raised the flag on Eldoret police for rampantly delaying case bookings, so as to help rogue cops get away with crime.

Reports indicate that when the public attempts to report crimes by police officers, they are turned away and asked to return after a few days, rendering the cases obsolete.

The public is now calling upon the Inspector General of Police and the Uasin Gishu County Commander to intervene and bring order back to the County.
