Mudavadi Stoned in Kibra as Campaigns Turn Chaotic

ImageANC leader Musalia Mudavadi had a rough time on Sunday in Kibra after rowdy youths pelted his motorcade with stones at Kamkunji grounds as he campaigned for his candidate Eliud Owalo.

Mudavadi was reportedly addressing the crowd when a group of youth emerged and started hurling stones and bottles at his vehicle.

He hurriedly left the venue with his supporters before the police lobbed tear gas canisters and fired live rounds to disperse the youth.

“We were holding our rally at Sarangombe when we were stoned by the youth. We don’t believe in violence. We restrained our young people.

“We were able to leave the area and went to Laini Saba area where we continued with our campaigns,” ANC Secretary-General Barack Muluka told the media.

Some supporters were reportedly injured in the chaos.

This comes as the latest violent incident to be witnessed after Jubilee candidate McDonald Mariga’s convoy was also pelted with stones two weeks ago, prompting him to petition the IEBC to take action against the ODM party which he accused of orchestrating the chaos.

The hotly contested race has attracted several candidates, including ODM’s Imran Okoth, Jubilee’s Macdonald Mariga and Ford Kenya’s Eng. Khamisi Butichi.

The seat was left vacant following the death of Ken Okoth, who was the MP elected on ODM ticket in the 2017 general election.

The by-election is slated for November 7.
