10-Man Gor Mahia Held By Motema Pembe

Kenya Premier League Champions Gor Mahia are in danger of getting knocked out of the CAF Confederations Cup following a 1-1 draw with Congolese side Motema Pembe at the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani.

Steven Pollack’s side, with Captain Kenneth Muguna and his assistant Joash Onyango back into the starting line up, will only blame themselves for missing a host of chances.

Gor Mahia came calling in the 43rd minute when Ambundo beat off his marker before sending in a first time shot that was miscued by Juma before Kipkirui, with the net at his mercy, heading his effort out.

The hosts would however go-ahead three minutes after the hour mark through Gnamien Yikpe who had been in the field barely for three minutes capitalizing on some good work from Juma to slot past the Motema keeper.

The visitors however leveled matters just 8 minutes later when the Gor Mahia defense failed to react to a free-kick leaving William Luezi to poke the ball home.

Things went from bad to worse when Charles Momany was sent off for a hand ball inside the box but David Mapigano did really well to save the resulting penalty kick from Bongonga Kombe.

The result means that Gor Mahia will must win in the return leg or register a scoring draw to have any hopes of qualifying for the Group Stages of the competition.
