The electoral body governing the Football Kenya Federation has released a preliminary list of candidates eligible to vie in the upcoming general election, slated for November 23 (county posts) and December 7 (national posts).

The board has also disclosed a list of several other aspirants who had issued their credential within the set time and are yet to be cleared due to issues with the eligibility criteria as stipulated in the Electoral Code.

“We have revealed a preliminary list of candidates who we have cleared to vie at both the county and national level,” said Board Chairman Prof. Edwin Wamukoya.

“We have not cleared some of the aspirants due to issues we had with their eligibility as well as double endorsements. We will be verifying these in due course and will come back with verdicts on the aforementioned,” he added.

Flanked by his running mate, Doris Petra, sitting president Nick Mwendwa completed the Board’s verification checkpoints on 23 Wednesday and was duly awarded an acknowledgement slip after scrutiny of his relevant documents.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Board opened a three-day window, between October 24 and October 26, 2019, in which disputes submitted to it will be heard. Aspirants who do not get satisfaction in the Board’s decision can further seek recourse at the Appeals Committee between October 28, and October 30, 2019.

The final list of candidates at both the County and National level will thereafter be published on November 2, 2019, ahead of the polls.

Voter verification, meanwhile, will be done between November 4, and November 9, 2019.
