Wondering why your skin is still misbehaving after throwing all your money into skincare?

Here are some reasons why your skin is still acting up despite all your efforts to tame it.

1. Not using sunscreen

Ladies and gentlemen, forget what you heard, black does crack if you don’t use sunscreen.

Sunscreen provides protection against premature ageing, hyperpigmentation, dark spots and sunburns.

2.Taking super- hot showers

Women love their hot showers but taking super-hot showers can be detrimental to your skin.
“Hot showers can strip your skin of essential moisture and healthy oils. I recommend taking warm, not hot showers,” Dennis Gross MD told bustle.com.

3. You scrub your skin too hard and too often

Scrubs help in removing dead skin and dirt by buffing them away but you shouldn’t be heavy-handed with it.

Dr. Ben Johnson, founder of Osmosis Pur Medical Skincare reveals that rough scrubbing ‘removes the protective barrier that your skin has’ and this exposes your skin to ‘environmental toxins and sun damage, causing ageing.’

Limit your exfoliating sessions to 2-3 times a week.

4. Not cleaning your brushes and beauty blenders regularly

This leads up to a buildup of dirt and foundation that will ruin your skin.

5.Popping zits/pimples

While it’s tempting to pop it since it’s so ‘ripe’, dermatologists advise against it because it pushes pus deeper into your skin making the infection worse. Popping pimples also causes permanent skin scarring and leads to pitting.

6. You rarely change your pillowcase

Experts recommend that you change your pillowcase once every two days. Also, use silk and satin pillowcases they are not only good for your hair but your skin too.

7. You sleep with your makeup on

Sleeping with your makeup on clogs your pores and oil glands.

8. You don’t use makeup removers

To effectively remove dirt and makeup from your face, use makeup removers as opposed to water only.

9. Using a harsh cleanser

Use a cleanser that is good enough to remove the dirt and unclog clogged pores but will not strip off all the oils from your skin or irritate it. Experts advise against products with Sodium Laurel Sulphate as it can inflame your skin.

Use a cleanser that suits your skin type e.g.; a foam cleanser for oily skin.

10. You put your dirty phone against your face
Your phone has been with you to the toilet, in the matatu, and in so many public areas. Wipe it down frequently with a hand sanitizer to kill germs and remove dirt.

11. Not moisturizing your oily face

Having an oily face doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t moisturize. If you don’t moisturize,  your skin will overcompensate by producing more oil and ‘blessing’ you with breakouts.
