Girl Commits Suicide After Being Shamed Over Poor Grades by Teacher

A girl in Bungoma County has committed suicide after being ridiculed over poor grades.

The deceased, a form one student at Cardinal Otunga Girls High School, took her life after she was shamed by her teacher over poor grades.

Media reports alleged that the student was accused of faking her examination results.

The teacher took action by scolding her during a parade session in front of her peers over the incident.

The girl whose identity is yet to be revealed, was later found hanging in the dormitory after using her bedsheets to commit the act.

The body has since been moved to the Bungoma County Referral Hospital.

Two months ago, a girl from Bomet County took her life after her teacher embarrassed her for having stained her clothes.

The mother of the victim identified as Beatrice Chepkurui explained that the child hanged herself after being chased away from her class in Kabiangek Primary School by the teacher.

“She had nothing to use as a pad when her periods started. When the blood stained her uniform, she was told to vacate the classroom and stay outside,” expressed Beatrice Koech.

Additional information highlighted that the pupil never made her way back home after she was sent to fetch water from the river.

Regional police head Alex Shikondi, asserted that the demise of the 14 year-old was being investigated.

A day after the incident, a preliminary report that was issued, disclosed that 77 packets of sanitary pads were found in the store of the school.

TSC CEO Nancy Macharia stated that the school had received enough pads to last the entire term.

“The school had received its full consignment of sanitary towels for the second term.” exclaimed Nancy.
