Blow as Barcelona Key Defender Ruled Out of Champions League Battle

Barcelona have been dealt a huge blow as their dependable defender Samuel Umtiti has picked up an injury ahead of their Champions League clash against Slavia Prague which is slated for Wednesday October 23.

Barely a day into the match, Barca have made the announcement which is definitely a bad news to their fans ahead of a serious match in a serious competition.

“Official: Samuel Umtiti has picked up a bruised knee meaning the centre-back misses the trip to take on Slavia Prague,” they tweeted via one of their official channels.

This comes two days after the club confirmed knee injury for midfielder Sergi Roberto. “Official: Roberto misses the game with Slavia Prague as he is still recovering from a knee injury that he picked up in the win against Eibar,” they tweeted.

Indeed, the La Liga giants have released squad for the Champions League match which confirms the injured players’ status.

 

Barcelona are going into the match from a league’s morale booster having beaten Eibar 3-0 on Match Day 9 of La Liga. They are also second in Champions League’s Group F where Dortmund and Inter Milan are also members. Dortmund are the group leaders on goal-difference.
