With less than three weeks to the D-day, Jubilee Party candidate for the Kibra parliamentary by-election McDonald Mariga on Monday launched his sports manifesto at Woodley grounds in Kibra, Nairobi.

Accompanied by a section of Jubilee party leaders including Lang’ata MP Nixon Korir and his Kimilili counterpart Didmus Barasa, Mariga revealed his mega plans for the Kibra residents.

The Jubilee candidate made one major promise of ensuring that youths from Kibra get opportunities of shining at the international football competition such as the champions league so that they can benefit from their talents.

“We have come to show our youths how to reach where we have reached so that they can even surpass that level.

It is because I have played in the champions league and I would want one young man from Kibra to play in the champion league where I played,” said the Jubilee candidate.

Mariga further added that his programme will provide a platform that will enable the youths to reach a platform whereby he will bring in scouts to take them to the next level.

“This is a talent nurturing programme that seeks to provide youths with platforms that will enable them to play at the national league level.

And once at that level, I will be able to use my connection to bring in scouts who will be able to pick the best talents so that they can play at the international level,” said Mariga.

The former football star said that he will hit the ground himself in directing and coaching the youths in a bid to ensure their dreams and his manifesto is actualized.

The Jubilee candidate also promised to provide good facilities that will enable the youths to actualize their exceptional talents in their areas of interest.

Mariga’s first shot at politics is facing stiff competition from ODM’s Bernard Okoth Imran, ANC’s Eliud Owalo, among other 20 candidates who were given a nod by the electoral body IEBC.

The Kibra seat fell vacant after the death of Ken Okoth in July due to colorectal cancer.

The by-election will be held on November 7.
