Detectives from Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested a Kiambu Member of County Assembly (MCA) for forging academic certificates.

EACC said the MCA for Kiamwangi Ward, Robert Kibe Githongo, will be charged on Wednesday before the anti-corruption Court in Milimani, Nairobi.

Githongo, who is also a pastor with African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA), will face four charges; providing false information to the EACC, making a false document, uttering a false document and making a false declaration.

Questions regarding the authenticity of Githongo’s secondary school certificate emerged during the 2017 elections.

In March 2017, the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) confirmed that his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) document was not genuine.

The letter from KNEC that indicated the form four certificate of Robert Githongo is forged.

KNEC said Githongo did not register or sit for the 1997 KCSE examinations at Murera Secondary under index number 1123510200.

It ruled that the copy of the certificate presented to KNEC for verification by the MCA was fake.

Before being elected in 2017, Githongo was the CDF chairman for Gatundu South, a position he held from 2013 to 2017.

The MCA is also accused of using the forged document to enrol for a diploma course at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture Technology (JKUAT).

The University awarded him a diploma in county governance on November 25, 2016.

Githongo, all along, has maintained that his Form Four certificate is genuine and attributed his predicaments to political opponents.
