Francis Kimanzi Rues Missed Chances Against Mozambique, Calls For Fans Support

Harambee Stars coach Francis Kimanzi has blamed his team’s wastefulness in front as the main reason behind the 1-0 loss to Mozambique on Sunday. A second-half strike from Cumbane Kama-Komo was enough to condemn Stars to their 3rd loss in the last five matches.

Jesse Were, Whyvone Isuza, and Micheal Olunga all has clear cut chances to score but neither could find the back of the net. Kimanzi, managing only his second match since he was re-appointed as the manager was left reiung the chances.

“We had chances to kill the match early on but we could not take them. Even after they scored, we still had a couple of chances but the composure in front of goal,” the former Mathare United manager said.

Joseph Okumu’s mistake midway through the second half led to the only goal of the match but Kimanzi insisted the young Center Back is not to blame for the loss.

“Young players make mistakes and that is part of his learning curve. Overall Okumu gave a good performance,” Kimanzi added.

The loss means that Kimanzi is yet to win a match in his third stint as the National team head coach. His first match was a 1-1 draw against Uganda at the same venue. The coach has however urged fans to support the process and trust in the team.

“We are in a rebuilding process and I would like to urge the fans to support us and trust the process,” he pleaded.

Harambee Stars’ next match is an African Cup Of Nations qualifier against Egypt in Cairo next month.
