Arsenal has played 11 matches so far this season and Mesut Ozil has only featured in two of them. One in the Premier League against Watford where he only lasted for one hour and the other in the Carabao Cup win over Nottingham Forest at the Emirates Stadium.

The coach, Unai Emery, is not a fan of the German and he does not hide that. The two were reported to have clashed in the training ground at the start of last season and their relationship has not gotten any better.

In the last match last season which was an ill-fated Europa League final that Arsenal lost 4-1 to Chelsea, Mesut Ozil was substituted and while on the bench could be seen hurling insults at the Spanish manager.

Ozil’s situation t the club is a curious one, for starters the number 10 role that he craves so much is slowly being phased out not only at Arsenal but across the football world.

Teams no longer favor a midfielder whose only role is to create and it is exactly why the only other number 10 in the world, James Rodriquez is struggling at Real Madrid. Football has moved on.

Furthermore Arsenals head of football Raul Sanllehi appeared to hint that he will not intervene in the Emery-Ozil feud insisting that the coach is free to play whoever he wants based on what he sees in training.

“Unai has had many good players in other teams also, and he has always followed the same policy. That is to try not to make any distinctions, play the ones who work hard in training and reward the effort with playing time. There is nothing against Mesut on the contrary and I hope we get to see him much more in the next games because his qualities are without question,” Raul said on the issue.

The German midfielder has been linked with moves to either Inter Milan Or AC Milan in the January Transfer window. The stumbling block would appear to be his huge salary which is £350,000 per week and is the highest at Arsenal and among the top five in the English Premier League.
