A section of elders from Cushite communities in Isiolo county have come out to warn Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and embattled Nairobi county speaker Beatrice Elachi against targeting their community.
While defending Nairobi city County Assembly majority leader Abdi Guyo, the elders accused Sonko and Elachi of targeting him because he hails from a minority community.
“There is a letter which has been written by Governor Sonko seeking to replace honorable Guyo from the majority leader’s post. Since when did he executive started interfering with the legislative?” posed one of the elders.

They wondered where the governor had garnered such powers from at the same time urging Jubilee Secretary-General Raphael Tuju to look into the matter
“We are appealing to the party’s leader to make quick interventions on this since we all have equal opportunities as Jubilee party members,” added another elder
They warned that if the same exclusions continue despite the handshake, they will reconsider their stand and support for Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.
“If anything happens to the majority leader, we will blame Sonko,” added another elder.
Their concerns come just some days after Governor Sonko wrote to the party’s Secretary-General Raphael Tuju requesting to change leadership at the assembly.
In the letter, which has also been copied to the county speaker, Sonko said Hamza MCA Mark Ndung’u would take over from Mr. Guyo.
Sonko accused the majority leader of undermining the county government through intimidation, interference and cajoling of staff.
According to him, this has made it difficult to implement Jubilee’s manifesto at the county government.
Speaker Beatrice Elachi also accused Guyo of intimidating MCAs and denying them seats in the committees.
So far, the governor has fallen out with a section of Jubilee MCAs who are allied to Guyo over what they termed as Sonko’s random suspension and sacking of senior officials and workers.
The ward reps have rebuked him for his erratic “roadside” dismissal of staff saying his habit of suspensions and dismissals has crippled operations at City Hall and ‘killed’ the careers of a number of people.
