The central midfielder joined the Gunners in the summer on a season-long temporary deal. The move was necessitated by his desire to get more playtime that has proved difficult to come by in Madrid for the past two years since he moved to the club two years ago from Real Betis on a six-year deal.

Life to his Arsenal career has been smooth either as he has been utilized mainly as a sub by coach Unai Emery. He got his first goal for the club a week ago in the 4-0 rout of Standard Liege a week ago in the Europa League capping what was a good performance against the Belgians.

The player is currently with the Spanish national team in readiness for the forthcoming international assignments and was asked whether he has considered moving to the North London club permanently from the Spanish capital.

“I never thought about going permanently. My goal is to succeed at Real Madrid. I will fight to fulfill my dream. With [Arsenal coach Unai] Emery’s confidence I may have many chances to be in Euros squad,” he stated.

He went on to reveal that his desire to play for La Roja at the 2020 Euros informed his decision to request a loan move away from Madrid. He says lack of playtime in Madrid would have seen him miss a Euros slot.

“These two years [at Real Madrid] I’ve learned a lot from the club, but now I’m enjoying it [football]. I knew it was an important year, the coach has doubts and he who doesn’t play doesn’t go [to Euro 2020], so it was a good time to go on loan,” he added.
