Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa has fired a warning to Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission over their preparations in the coming by-election in Ganda Ward.
Speaking at a mega rally in Msambaa grounds on Thursday, Jumwa cautioned the electoral body against making mistakes similar to those that led to the mini polls.
The outspoken MP has asked IEBC to conduct a free and fair exercise in the by-elections set for 17th October.
“We want a free and fair exercise come October 17, make sure you rectify the mistakes you made in the previous process on date 17th.
If what is being told bares some fact, I want to tell you, Mr Sudi, your colleague who has come from Mombasa Juma Musa, because they are boasting that Musa Juma has been sent from Mombasa by Joho to come and do this or that…
I want to believe Juma is an IEBC officer who has come to do his role as an electoral officer. Let him enforce truth, justice and transparency,” said Jumwa.
The MP, however, accused the Orange Democratic Movement(ODM) of planning to doctor their results in favour of their candidate.
Recently, the ODM party suffered a heavy blow after its key member switched to the rival camp.
Former ODM councillor in the defunct Malindi Municipal Council, Erastus Katana, shifted his allegiance to the independent candidate Omar Mohamed, who enjoy massive support of Jumwa.
Katana was received by the Malindi MP, who despite being an ODM member, has been campaigning for Omar.
Omar was declared the winner of 2017 elections but lost the seat after a successful court petition. He later decamped from ODM and vied for the seat as an independent candidate.
Other candidates in the race include ODM’s Reuben Katana, Jubilee Party’s Joseph Kiponda and Kadu Asili’s David Mitsanze.
