Eto’o recently retired from football after two decades in the game and is set to pursue his coaching badges before commencing a career in coaching.

Regarded as one of the best African footballers ever, the striker played for clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Chelsea where he met great coaches like Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho.

However, the forward chose Aragones as the best he ever worked with. The two were together at Real Mallorca between 2001 and 2003 before Eto’o moved to Barcelona and Aragones left for Atletico Madrid.

According to Eto’o the tactician, who died in 2014 aged 75 advised him to move to a bigger club from Mallorca, a piece of advice he says was puzzling. He says Aragones urged him to seek a bigger challenge before his move to Barcelona and as such ranks him higher than Pep and Mourinho.

“The best coach I had? Each one is special. It is not easy to choose one, but if I have to choose one, it’s Luis. While I was a player at Mallorca, I had a talk in his office that changed my life. He said that I had done everything at Mallorca and told me to go another club to see what my real level was. At that moment I thought: “But what is this old man saying?’,” he said.
