Seven people were arrested over a case of Mpesa fraud in Kabete, Kiambu County.
The DCI stated that the seven identified as Victor Rono, Mercy Chepkirui, Nicholas Kipkurui, Wesley Kiprono, Robert Kibet, Faith Chepkorir and Felix Tanui were involved in several cases of Sim and Mpesa float swap.
The gang was arrested on Tuesday in two separate houses in Kabete after the authorities were tipped of on their whereabouts.
During the raid, over 200 sim cards, several mobile phones and several agent registration registers were recovered.
Further information revealed that the suspects also defrauded citizens through Mshwari, withdrawals, fake M-Pesa reversal claims and M-Pesa con.
The Kinoti led team reiterated that investigations into the matter were ongoing.
A month ago, a man who obtained money through the Safaricom service from a businesswoman was apprehended and charged with stealing at Makadara Law Courts.
The criminal identified as Stanley Irungu was prosecuted for stealing Ksh 39,000 that was wrongly sent to his phone by Millicent Atieno.
Police reports disclosed that Atieno, who is an Mpesa agent, had been given Ksh 60,000 to deposit for her customer and accidentally sent to the wrong recipient, Irungu, who was also her customer.
Irungu however withdrew the money before the transaction was reversed by the telecommunication company.
According to Atieno, she was able to reverse Ksh 21,000 which had remained in her account.
Atieno proclaimed that she tried to reach the accused but her efforts were futile as Irungu ignored her calls.
The law enforcers were able to trace the suspect after the matter was brought forward.
Irungu was released on a Ksh 20,000 cash bail as his case was set to be mentioned on October 1.
