Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi has revealed a horrific moment when he was held at gunpoint by police officers in Nairobi.

Speaking to NTV Kenya, amlive show, the senator narrated how they, together with his friend, nearly lost their lives after armed gunmen attacked them on the road in a broad daylight.

“Daylight at noon that was about 10 years ago, here in the city around Nyayo Stadium, crossing a road from a place where I operate a business and I was going with a friend of mine here like Jakoyo.

We are walking, crossing the road going for lunch, all over sudden people come with a vehicle, block the road and they jump out with AK47 riffles and they order us to lie down, on the side.

And they are telling me, where is your gun? Remove your gun and I told them I don’t have a gun. So we all surrendered and in just a moment they block another vehicle, they stole money that was in the vehicle and they took off,” narrated the Senator.

Shockingly, unknown to him, Wamatangi proceded to a police station to report the incident only to discover the person who meted the horror on them was the same he was to report his case to.

“After some time, the fellow who was pointing AK47 at me, I go to a police station, when I go to a police station I find this is the guy dressed the way he was, the same character, outside the police station.

And I was going to report because one of my vehicles had been Impounded. I had to make a quick turn and walk away and drive without even saying a word.

Because I knew the next thing that is going to happen to me is what happened to Willie Kimani. Because if they know you have recognized them that he is the one who came to rob you, you are going to be murdered,” said the Wamatangi.

The Senator was narrating his personal ordeal to connect with the ongoing cases of police becoming part of criminal groups terrorising Kenyans.

On Monday, testimonies presented in court indicated that the death of the late lawyer Willie Kimani, in 2016, had police hand in it.

The senator claimed that police officers have formed a criminal syndicate that has made Kenyans suffer despite the promised police reforms.

“We have a serious issue in our hand, we have a serious problem. If this is the continuity we have after all the complaints that Kenyans have made and the promises we have heard of reforms…

I have once lost a car at night in the hands of a police officer and that car up to date has never been found.

This is the story of Kenyans if you ask any Kenyans who are victims of Matatus being carjacked day in day out in Nairobi and in all the roots you will never miss a story of people being robbed and t is the work of police officer,” said the senator.

Wamatangi further challenged the Cabinet Secretary for Interior Fred Matiang’i to tame rogue officers saying his stellar performance in other ministries should be reflected in the current one.
