Orengo Backs Out of Case Against Ruto

Lawyer James Orengo

The Weston Case against Deputy William Ruto took a new twist on Monday after Lawyer James Orengo quit.

It was reported that Orengo terminated his services after the KCAA had filed an application to have the lawyer removed from representing the state corporation.

Orengo’s services had been sought by the government agency after the National Land Commission (NLC) had directed that a negotiation be done by the two parties for a possible compensation instead of having the infrastructure demolished.

The Weston Hotel

According to NLC, the aviation body are the rightful owners of the land on which the hotel stood on.

Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi who is the legal representative for the Ruto owned property, however claimed foul play in regards to the exit of the Siaya Senator.

“Am disappointed that Senior Counsel James orengo has opted out this matter.” remarked the Senior Counsel.

The comment by Ahmednasir was however contradicting as he was among the number of lawyers that had wanted Orengo thrown out of the case.

In July 2019, an application had been presented to the High Court to have the vocal Orengo removed from the case on the basis that he was representing Raila Odinga’s interest.

According to the tough talking Ahmednasir, Orengo and his other counterpart in the case Otiende Amollo, were barred from being part of the matter due to being Members of Parliament.

“I will be filing an application seeking to have the applicant’s lawyers withdraw from the case. The issue to be determined will be whether members of an arm of Government can represent parties.

“He is a leader of the minority and is expressly prohibited by the Constitution.” stated Ahmednasir.
