Security firm Securex Agencies Limited has issued a notice of redundancy to its 222 guards following the loss of business.

In the notice, it said: “We refer to a number of lost assignments through the year a situation that has worsened as we approach the end of 2019. The losses can only be attributed to the prevailing difficult economic times prevalent in the country”.

The firm said the loss of its Two Rivers Assignment influenced the release of the 222 security officers amidst a “tireless endeavour to find alternative assignments but without much success”.

It added that the contract of the affected employees will end on 5th November 2019.

The firm layoff of the workers comes follows that of betting companies SportPesa and Betin which recently issued notices of redundancies to its employees after closing operations in the country.

SportPesa, last week Wednesday, fired its 400 employees terming a hostile operating environment under the new tax rules.

SportPesa said the termination was occasioned by the fact that they have not been in operation since July 2019 which has affected their revenues.

“As a result of the deterioration of the profitability, the management has had to rethink its operational model to proceed with the exercise of termination on the account of redundancy” it stated.

Betin also issued a notice of termination to all its employees effective 31st October.
