Kenyatta University Close Indefinitely

Kenyatta University closed until further notice.

Kenya University has been closed indefinitely following the students’ rampage that has paralysed activities at the institution.

In a memo released by the University Senate, all students have been ordered to vacate the university premises Immediately.

“Following disturbances by some students from yesterday 7th October 2019 to today 8th October 2019 that have led to the disruption of lectures and destruction of University property, the University Senate has decided to close the University until further notice,” read in part the Memo.

Kenyatta University Students Association (KUSA) leader Joshua Ayika has reportedly advised the students not to leave the institution until he addresses them.

The students on Monday engaged police in running battles causing a heavy traffic snarl-up on Thika Road.

The students are reportedly demanding the resignation of the institution’s Vice-Chancellor Prof. Paul K. Wainaina for what they termed as “historical injustices.”

The students are said to have been lamenting over strict deadlines of clearing their fees and increase in charges of supplementary exams.

The students also accuse the management of hiking the graduation fees from Sh3500 to Sh6000.

According to a memo by the University vice Chancellor, dubbed ‘irreducible minimums from my office’, the institution’s management had reiterated that no student would attend classes until all the demands are met.
