Mathare United head coach Salim Ali is a proud man over their unbeaten run in the Kenyan Premier League so far.

The Slum Boys have not conceded a single defeat from the first five matches of the season and Salim attributes this to a ‘great character’ shown by his boys.

From the matches, they have won once and drawn fourth to stand at position 10 of the 18-team table. They beat Ulinzi Stars and held Bandari, Tusker, Kariobangi Sharks and Wazito.

Speaking on this regard, Salim says his boys had studied the fixture before they stepped on the pitch for their first game, and that their deep understanding of their opponents is one of the secrets to their ‘success’.

“When the fixture list was announced we knew we had to be at our best from day one because all of the five teams we have faced so far are potential title challengers,” he told the club’s official website.

“I believe we have had the most grueling of starts and to remain unbeaten in this period is an achievement in itself. There have been plenty of positives so we have to keep this up as well as iron out the mistakes that have denied us wins,” he added.

However, he thinks his side would have won their recent match against Wazito. “I am disappointed of course, frustrated that we played well (against Wazito), took the lead twice but could not quite see out the win. I see it as a setback even though we did not lose and we have to work even harder to make sure that when we are in a position to win a match, we make sure that we do just that,” he said.
