Juventus and Italy legend Claudio Marchisio has retired from football aged 33, the player has announced.
The midfielder has opted to retire from the game after failing to secure a club since he quit Russian side, Zenit St. Petersburg at the end of 2018/19 season.
Marchisio came through the Juventus youth system a broke into the senior team in 2005. He went on to play for the Old Lady for 13 years before quitting the club in 2018 for Russian giants.
The former Italy international has now taken to social media to announce that he has retired from the game stating that he fulfilled his childhood dream.
“I’d made a promise to the kid who dreamt to become a football player. I would have played until I had felt the marvel stepping into the pitch. I wasn’t fulfilling my promise anymore, that’s why I prefer to stop. So, thank you dream, you gave me the strength, success, and joy,” he posted on Twitter.
