How Ethic and Sailors Made #playke Music Dream Come True

If there’s one debate that dominated the music industry since the year began, its the call for media to play more of Kenyan music.

Kenyan artistes flooded the social media using the hashtag #PlayKeMusic with their complaints of not being given sufficient airplay on radio and TV like their foreign colleagues.

However, the realization of playing 80% of Kenyan music is slowly coming to reality all thanks to the upcoming Gengetone boy band Ethic Entertainment and Sailors.

Since the emergence of Ethic Entertainment and Sailors bands who burst onto the music scene and changed the game by bringing back Genge genre with an additional flavor. Gengetone has so far become Kenya’s second national anthem with both youngsters and old folks dancing to the newly found Kenyan sound.

Unlike back in the days when Bongo and Naija music would dominate in matatus, events and even in people’s homes.

These kings of Gengetone are the real game-changers.

They have been releasing hits after hits and the reception so far has been good judging by the Youtube views which is not controlled by the media or deejays, audience tastes reflect well.

Ethic Entertainment and Sailors band is the story of how fame turns creatives into mindless celebrities,the duo bands have also motived other similar groups like the Ochungulo Family, Rico Gang, Boondocks Gang and the many young men who are following in their footsteps.

These youngsters are slowly changing the music norm and very soon Kenya will have its own musical identity.

It is irrefutable that these are only the early days of Gengetone and we need not ignore them.
