After a demoralizing 6-1 aggregate loss to Algerian side USM Alger in the CAF Champions League, Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia shift focus to their title defense with a match against Nzoia Sugar on Wednesday.
Steven Pollack’sside is in the middle of an injury crisis and the coach was forced to name only 4 players in the team’s 2-0 loss to USM Alger in their second leg of the CAF Champions League match played at the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani on Sunday.
Gor Mahia is, however, the team to beat domestically and have won their first two matches in the league scoring 7 goals while letting in just 3 in the process.
Meanwhile, Nzoia Sugar has won one, drawn one and lost the other in their first 3 league fixtures. The Sugar millers were one of the few teams to beat Gor Mahia last season though, at the time, Gor Mahia had already been confirmed as the Champions mathematically.
It was their first win against K’Ogallo having suffered five straight defeats prior to that meeting.
Despite having played a match following the postponement of their matchday 2 fixture with Chemelil Sugar, a win for Gor Mahia would move them top of the Kenya Premier League table with points, one better than current leaders Western Stima. Nzoia, on the other hand, is 12th on the log with 4 points.
The match will be played at the Mumias Sports Complex and kicks off at 3.P M
