On Friday, USM Alger took to social media to claim that Gor Mahia abandoned them at a Nairobi hotel, forcing the visitors to train on tarmacked surface ahead of their Caf Champions League match.

They went ahead to explain that they will be seeking redress from the Africa’s football management body Confederation of African Football (CAF) over the issue-which they were evidently unhappy about.

“Scheduled at 17pm (5pm) in a stadium in Nairobi, the training session was finally done at the hotel. Indeed, the bus that was to be made available to our team by Gor Mahia was an hour late, which forced the technical staff to prefer to stay at the hotel. An attitude not at all professional from the leaders of the team of Gor Mahia, knowing that in Algiers, the usmma has given all the necessary to kenyan people including a bus and two cars,” the statement read.

It added; “The direction management will seize caf at the technical meeting scheduled this Saturday.”

But in a quick rejoinder, Gor Mahia rubbished the claim terming it malicious. “Our attention has been drawn to a malicious Facebook post by our dear guests USM Alger – falsely claiming that we have acted unprofessionally by failing to avail them a transport means in time to aid them attend a training session last evening.

“We would like to categorically state that nothing could be further from the truth; since their arrival in the country, we (K’Ogalo) have treated them with utmost brotherly love in the true spirit of our African culture and sportsmanship – we picked them at the airport at 3.25AM on Friday and ensured that they were well settled in their hotel. The team requested us to provide them with a bus at 4.00PM so that they could proceed to Utalii Grounds for a light training session which we duly availed ON TIME, however, after surveying the traffic situation on the ever busy Thika Super Highway, THEY (USMA) decided to cancel the plans, the decision was purely theirs not ours.

“They feared getting stuck in the traffic jam like it happened to them when they last visited the country in 2018. Gor Mahia will never engage themselves in any unprofessional behavior towards any guest. Thank you,” the statement read.

The match is scheduled to be played on Sunday at Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.
