Tusker Whip, Leave Sofapaka Wobbling in Machakos

A perfect second-half from Tusker FC helped them overcome Sofapaka 3-1 in a Kenyan Premier League match staged at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Saturday afternoon.

The first half was largely balanced but the Brewers upped their game after the interval to pick maximum points from the match.

Mike Madoya, Hillary Wandera and Luke Namanda scored the goals for Robert Matano’s men to help them pick maximum points from the match. Eli Asieche scored a late consolation goal for Batoto Ba Mungu from the penalty spot.

The start of the match was balanced with Both teams keen on getting the opener. Peter Lwasa rattled the upright for Sofapaka early on while Timothy Otieno and George Odhiambo came close for the Brewers.

Against the run of play, Tusker won a penalty in the 33rd minute when George Odhiambo went down inside the area. Timothy Otieno stepped forward to take the resultant spot kick but Ugandan keeper Isma Watenga guessed right to deny him. The first half ended barren.

A minute into the second stanza, the Brewers took the lead through captain of the day Mike Madoya. Rogers Aloro’s freekick from the edge of the area hit the upright and the former Zoo man reacted fast to bundle the ball home.

Five minutes later, the Hillary Wandera made it 2-0 after pouncing on a loose ball inside the penalty area. Luke Namanda then sealed the win with a third goal in the 71st minute hitting the roof of the net after some good work from David Majak on the left flank.

Tusker continued to raid in search of more goals but they couldn’t breach Sofapaka’s rearguard further but failed to take the chances. Eli Asieche scored a late consolation goal for the visitors from the spot.
