Mathare United and Kariobangi Sharks are satisfied with the result of their Kenyan Premier League Slum Derby played on Saturday, September 28.

The clubs played to a barren draw at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, and while speaking in post-match interviews, both coaches; Salim Ali of Mathare United and William Muluya of Kariobangi Sharks admitted that walking out of the match without a defeat was a thing worth appreciating.

Salim first rued their missed chances and concentration lapse before saying it was a good game. “We created a number of chances but we did not convert them into goals. All in all, we appreciate the single point,” he said.

On his side, William Muluya expressed his worry for lack of goals in the match but agreed that the draw was a good result. “A draw is a fair result,” he said.

Prior to the match, Kariobangi Sharks midfielder Sven Yidah had promised to mark his opponent David Owino in search of victory. Mathare United goalkeeper Job Ochieng’ had also promised to keep a clean-sheet.

“I would say that winning against David Owino will make feel good. We come from the same hood (Kibra) so I will feel good to have one over him and to be reminding him of it when we meet at home,” Sven said.

“If I start on Saturday it will be my second game against Sharks. I started against them last season and kept a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw so I will be hoping for another shutout. But most importantly is for the team to win. So I will do my best in my role and hope this will inspire the rest of my teammates to go out there and get the result,” Ochieng’ said.
