Martin Odeegard produced what’s probably the best assist of the year during a Laliga match between Real Sociedad and Deportivo Alaves on Thursday night.
Nineteen minutes into the game, the on-loan Real Madrid midfielder nutmegged an Alaves player before squaring a defense-splitting pass that set up Mikel Oyarzabal for his first of the game a match Sociedad went to win 3-0 courtesy of an Oyarzabal brace and another strike from Willian Jose.

The Norwegian’s moment of magic gave fans a reminder of what he is capable of despite failing to live to the hype that saw Real Madrid splash the cash to acquire his services from, Strømsgodset Toppfotball in 2015.
His career at Real Madrid failed to take off and has spent time away from Real Madrid. In the last three years, he played at Dutch sides SC Heerenveen and SBV Vitesse before moving to Sociedad before the start of 2019/20 campaign and has scored two goals and set up one so far this season.
The 20-year-old made appearances for Norway U15, U16, U17, and U21 sides before making his debut for the senior team in 2014 aged only 14. He has gone to play 20 times for the national team scoring one goal for his country.
Thursday night’s moment of magic set social media ablaze and fans took to social media to praise the midfielder.
When I was 13, I was in a WhatsApp group chat with some Arsenal fans. I remember this 11 year old Norwegian kid telling me that a player by the name of Martin Ødegaard from his city will become one of the best players in the world soon. Couldn't take him seriously then but boy…

No player has provided more chances created in a single La Liga fixture since the start of 2016/17 than Martin Ødegaard vs Alaves today. (@Squawka)

Martin Ødegaard has arguably been the best midfielder in the league this season. Joan Jordan in the opening 4 games was a revelation too, but he hasn't cracked it in his last two games.
Guess who needs a creative midfielder? Real Madrid

Martin Ødegaard is the real deal. I think choosing Real Madrid over Liverpool a few years back was the wrong move for him – and it has held him back – but he's going to be such a baller. Can't help but imagine how he'd thrive under Jürgen Klopp. #LFC
