Deputy President William Ruto on Wednesday drummed up support for Jubilee’s candidate MacDonald Mariga in Kibra by-elections in a meeting with groups of youth, women and men from the constituency.

DP Ruto said the constituency deserves a leader who understands the problems facing the residents.

“We want somebody who understands the problems of the people of Kibra. Somebody who has been raised in Nairobi”

He stated that they deliberated on issues of incomplete projects in Kibra, Nairobi County with the groups.

He added that the government will institute a working mechanism, which will restructure and conclude the programmes, under the reformed NYS, to the benefit of the Kibra community.

Mariga promised to improve sports in the constituency if elected as MP in the November 7 polls.

He said he would work together with the residents to solve issues facing them.

The Kibra by-election has been termed a supremacy battle between DP Ruto and ODM Leader Raila Odinga.

DP Ruto is keen to have his point man installed in an area regarded as having the most loyal Raila’s supporters.

On the other hand, ODM is leaving nothing to chance to recapture the seat that was declared vacant following the death of Ken Okoth who succumbed to cancer in July.

The Party’s aspirant Bernard Imran Okoth has intensified door-to-door campaigns to popularise his bid.

While ODM Party has solidified its support behind Imran, some Jubilee allied leaders have voiced their opposition to Mariga’s candidature.

Some of them include Jubilee Nominated MP Maina Kamanda, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, Wajir MP Fatuma Gedi, and Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi.
