The Norwegian coach has been under-fire from United supporters and Wednesday’s struggle against League One side, Rochdale in the Carabao Cup further fueled dissenting voices among the club faithful. United had to win the game through post-match penalties after a one-all draw in regulation time.

Wenger, who quit Arsenal at the end of 2018 season after 18 years in charge believes that the United legend is not the right man for the job. He stated that United need a courageous and confident manager, attributes he believes the current manager Ole Gunnar does not possess. He further stated that United need around four first-team players to make them title challengers again.

“Manchester United is a dream job for any manager. At least, any manager with courage and confidence. Yes, they need – in my opinion – four first-team players. But around those players, I see a squad that is capable of challenging. They aren’t as far away as people think,” he said.

He further took a swipe at Solskjaer by claiming that United plays with no pattern and needs proper coaching to improve how they play.

“The team has no pattern of play, no pattern of pressing. There is a team there, but it needs to be coached and developed. Like I said, four players and they can be challengers. For everything,” he added.

Pressed on whether he would be interested at taking over at the record English champions, Wenger admitted that coaching United is everyone’s dream job and that he has the right attributes to succeed at the club.

“As I said, Manchester United is a dream job. For any coach. I have confidence, I have courage…and you’re right, I have ideas,” he added.
