Ruto Beats Raila in Bid to Control IEBC & Other Trending Stories This Morning

Good morning,

Have you exchanged your old Ksh 1,000 notes? You have only five days to do so. Actually it is less than five because Safaricom Shops and a few other businesses will stop transacting with the old notes from tomorrow (Thursday).

The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) on Tuesday revealed that only 24 Kenyans had exchanged money above Ksh2 million in the past three months. This is very far from what we have always believed about some Kenyans are hiding billions under their mattresses.

So where are the billions that CBK was targeting? Was this just a baseless rumour or should we expect the billionaires to flock banks with sacks of money in the remaining days?

If indeed it is true that Kenyans don’t have sacks of money hidden under their mattresses, then was it necessary to phase out the Ksh 1,000 with so much urgency?

Slain tycoon Tob Cohen was finally laid to rest on Tuesday in a tense funeral ceremony at the Jewish Cemetery in Nairobi.

His widow Sarah Wairimu, who was allowed to attend the ceremony despite being the main murder suspect, accused some unknown people of killing the golfer and hiding in sheep’s skin.

“Even as we stand here, many of the ones responsible for Tob’s death are here in sheepskin, believe you me, your days are also numbered,” she warned.
