Kiambu Level 5 Hospital in conjunction with Health Care Global Enterprises (HCG) and Cancer Centre (CCK) are scheduled to conduct free consultations and screening of prostate, cervical and breast cancer on 28th September starting from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital.

The two health organizations have already set a facility at the county hospital in order to offer high quality and comprehensive cancer treatment during the exercise in which many people are expected to avail themselves and benefit from the free health service.

Healthcare Global Enterprises (HCG) is the first Indian private health care organization to invest in cancer in Africa.

More than 40,000 new cancer cases are reported in Kenya every year, but due to lack of treatment and some people realizing it when it’s late, we lose 20,000 lives every year. Cancer preventive methods were also inadequate and there is insufficient awareness.

The Sub County Health Administration Officer, Eston Karimi said that they are expecting residents to avail themselves in big numbers because it will only be a one-day activity.

He also advised men not to fear to say they should feel free to come for the screening so that they can know their status and chart the way forward in staying free of cancer.

Speaking to KNA Tuesday, Joyce Waithera Kimani a resident of Kirigiti hailed the initiative saying many people don’t even know where to go for the screening, while others can’t afford the service since it’s very expensive.

She, therefore, appealed to as many people as possible that are within Kiambu and its environs to come out in large numbers for this noble activity.

A local businessman Josphat Karimiti said he will go to the hospital early in the morning because he does not want to miss out on the free screening.

He encouraged his fellow men to join him and others for the exercise saying the government committed offering quality health services to all its citizens
