A fire has razed down a section of Busia County offices destroying properties of unknown value.
The fire which broke out on Wednesday morning is said to have started from the county’s finance offices.
It has not yet been established how the fire that reduced finance section to ashes began, however, according to sources the fire might have started at around 2am on Wednesday morning.
The county firefighters who rushed to the scene managed to put out the fire which had already destroyed a larger section of the office which housed the county’s crucial financial documents. Other offices were not affected
Busia County Communications Director Winnstone Mbada said they are yet to establish the cause of the fire.
“The situation has been controlled. We are working closely with relevant authorities to establish the cause of the fire,” stated Mbada.
The incident happened amid corruption investigations ongoing in the county. In July 2018, Busia county Governor Sospeter Ojaamong together with nine other County officials were arrested and presented before Mlimani court on multiple corruption charges.
The three were charged for allegedly engaging in a scheme to defraud the county government of Busia Sh8 million between the months of March and September 2014.
They were also charged with failure to comply with the law relating to the management of public funds and fraudulent acquisition of public property.
